    How Many MLB Teams in California?

    California is home to some of Major League Baseball’s most popular and beloved franchises. In fact there are several MLB teams that are based in California. 

    There are five Major League Baseball teams that are located in California. The San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Los Angeles Dodgers, Oakland A’s and the San Francisco Giants. There are more MLB teams in California (5) than any other state.

    In today’s article I’ll share with you detailed information about each MLB franchise in California. Including team history, notable players & coaches and other fun facts. In addition, you’ll learn about other states and cities that also have multiple MLB franchises in their state.

    MLB Teams in California 

    MLB currently has 30 franchises with 29 teams spread across the country with 1 team located in Canada. There are also several states that are home to more than one MLB franchise. One of these states is California

    The five Major League Baseball teams that are based in California are the San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Los Angeles Dodgers, Oakland A’s and the San Francisco Giants.

    San Diego Padres

    The San Diego Padres got their start in California in 1969, but are still looking to win their first World Series title. They don’t have the same national popularity as some of the other California teams but do have a loyal fan base within the state.

    Los Angeles Angels 

    The Los Angeles Angles are based in LA and have a wide fan base of fans all over the country. The Angles haven’t been nearly as successful as Los Angeles Dodgers but they are still one of MLB most popular teams. There one and only World Series Championship came in 2002 where they beat their in state rival the San Francisco Giants (4 games to 3).

    Los Angeles Dodgers

    The Los Angeles Dodgers are one of the most popular MLB franchises of all time. The Dodgers have won seven World Series Titles and have a very passionate and loyal fanbase. The Dodgers are one of the many teams that didn’t get their start in California, but rather re-located from Brooklyn in 1958 where they were known as the Brooklyn Dodgers. They have historically been one of the best MLB teams on the west coast.

    Oakland A’s 

    The Oakland Athletic’s are also a popular MLB team that is based in California. The franchise first got their start in Kansas City but then decided to re-locate to Oakland in 1968 where they became the Oakland A’s. The A’s have won nine World Series Titles and have had some of the most memorable player play for their team, such as Mark McGwire, Jason Giambi, Barry Zito and others.

    Believe it or not the San Francisco Giants were once located in New York, but have been in San Francisco since 1959. With eight World Series titles the Giants are one of the most respected team in MLB. They have been playing at Oracle Park since 2000 and have won three of their eight World Series championships in the last decade.

    There are two Major League Baseball teams that are in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Dodgers who play in the National League and the Los Angeles Angels who are in the American League. Los Angeles is one of four metropolitan areas that are home to two MLB franchises.

    California has five MLB franchises which is the most teams out of any state in the country. There are seven other states that have two teams, several that have just one and some states that don’t have any MLB teams.

    There are two MLB franchises that are located in Texas, the Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros. The Astros are base in Houston and the Rangers are located in Dallas-Fort Worth. Texas is one of several states that are home two multiple MLB teams.

    In Florida there are two Major League Baseball teams, the Florida Marlins and the Tampa Bay Rays. Florida is also home two multiple NFL and NBA teams. Including the Miami Heat, Orlando Magic in the NBA. As well as the Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL.
